As a young girl, Louise Miller felt like she didn’t fit in. She loved to compete and to run, climb, tackle and play baseball. But she grew up in the 1950s when girls couldn’t do those things.

As a child, she was able to play on her brother’s baseball team but as she grew up, she found that there were less and less opportunities for athletic women.

Now, the 62-year-old is making up for that lost time in a big — and powerful — way.

When her physician prescribed weight training to help manage her osteopenia, a precursor to osteoporosis, she found her true love — power lifting.

Now, she’s the member of a 25-woman team, consisting primarily of women 60 and older, who are in the best shape of their lives. She explains that being healthy is their top concern and many found their way to the weight-lifting group to help them manage a variety of illnesses, injuries and diseases.

And they’re kicking butt.

Find out what lifting goals Louise has achieved and why her new lifestyle, which includes running and lifting, has made her stronger in ways she never imagined.
