Robert Biswas-Diener has been called the Indiana Jones of positive psychology because he travels the world looking for physical and cultural benefits of happiness.

He believes happiness creates reactions in our bodies that keep us healthy, help us fight disease, bolster our immune system and enable us to reach our full potential. He says state of mind is directly tied to our state of wellness.

When stress and problems get the best of us, he says to look for the small things that happen during a day that make us happy and “bank” them to help get through the rough times.

He explains why he thinks happiness is more important today than ever before.
