The Smothers Brothers, their ensemble of comedians and their weekly guests created intelligent political commentary and satire, mostly aimed at the Vietnam War and racism.
Their message was one of peace and humanitarian efforts, but the censors took straight aim at them. The more the censors pushed, the more emboldened the Smothers Brothers became. And leading the fight was Tommy.
Over the years, he’s continued to shout out about injustice and intolerance, and along the way, he’s found time to reinvent himself several times over!
Today, Tommy is still provocative, entertaining and fascinating to listen to. The Smothers Brothers made sense out of murky times back then, and they still seem to be able to do it today.
