Aging happens to everyone, but we have more control over how we live the second half of our lives than at any other time in human history. While some people take the notion of aging very seriously, others point out the humor in it, including the very funny Annabelle Gurwitch.

You remember her from hosting the weekend TV movie specials, Dinner and a Movie. Today, she’s also a comedian, actor and author. In her book, I See You Made an Effort, she takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the aging process, joking about the good and bad realities of this life stage.

She hilariously talks about all the oddities of aging, particularly for women, from products in department stores to how women are portrayed in the media. Annabelle, who is now 53, explains why she doesn’t think 50 is the new 40.

She shares examples of some of the ridiculous things have said to her as she’s gotten older and why people should never look  to celebrities as role models for aging.
