Neville Williams is a solar energy pioneer who is still electrified by his passion to provide energy to poor people worldwide.
Williams first became interested in harnessing the power of the sun during the Carter Administration when he served as a consultant to the U.S. Energy Department.
In 1990, he set off on a 12-year campaign to bring solar power to people in the developing world. He founded the non-profit Solar Electric Light Fun, which continues to facilitate rural solar development worldwide. In 2005, he founded and was CEO of Standard Solar in Maryland.
Williams is also an award-winning journalist, an author, a former executive at Greenpeace and he’s even helped develop a new video game called The Solar Games.
Nearly 2 billion people in the developing world still don’t have access to basic electricity. Williams describes what he discovered during the dozen years he traveled to developing countries to bring solar power, something he writes about in his book “Chasing the Sun.”
