New in the Bolder Movies spotlight: Hillsong: Let Hope Rise, which tells the true story of a group of Australian teenagers who met at their church’s youth group and is now considered one of the most influential bands in the world (and not just for Christian music or audiences).

They’ve sold more than 20 million albums, their songs have been translated into 100 languages, more than 50 million people sing their songs every Sunday and they’ve even been featured on the front page of The New York Times!

Hillsong UNITED may look like a group of rock stars but they say they want no part of that lifestyle — and with this film, they say they just want to inspire people to come together, to sing together, and to have an opportunity to do good and be happy each day.

Even the director, Michael John Warner, admits that he was skeptical about getting on board with a movie that might feel too overly religious, and turn some people away. He himself is not religious. Then, he saw the band play and says it was nothing like the church he’d grown up in. He felt and saw LOVE all around, and thought: “Whether you’re religious or not, it’s hard to look at that, experience that, and not feel good about it.”
