ABC News reporter and anchor Dan Harris got some unwelcome publicity back in 2004 when he had a full-blown panic attack on the air, with more than 5 million viewers watching.

In investigating the root cause of his panic attack, he discovered he had some serious issues — and some unhealthy and dangerous ways of coping with them.

Harris spent six years working in war zones in the Middle East. When he returned to “normal” life, he found himself self-medicating with recreational drugs to cope with everything he’d seen.

The panic attack led him to seek alternative coping methods, which ultimately introduced him to the practice of meditation.

He describes his journey and why he’s the least likely person to become a frequent meditator in his wickedly funny new book, “10 Percent Happier: How I Tamed My Inner Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge and Found Self-Help That Actually Works — A True Story.”

Harris describes how his inner voice was plaguing him with negativity and self-doubts, and how he learned to tame it.

Find out what he learned about the restorative effects of meditation and how it can positively impact many areas of your health and wellness.

He also clears up some common misconceptions of meditation and why it’s more of an act of exercising your brain rather than clearing your mind.
