In this era of economic uncertainty, less is more. It’s important to clear the decks of unwanted and unused possessions, and in the process, clear our minds.

Ciji Ware is one of our country’s top minds.  She’s a writer, a novelist, a former journalist who spent 20 years reporting and commentating on Los Angeles TV and radio stations and she was the first female Harvard graduate to serve as president of the Harvard University Alumni Association.

Now, like many of us, she’s looking for a blueprint for the rest of her life. She said it all starts with cleaning out the garage, basement or attic. It may seem too difficult to do, but she doesn’t recommend you downsize — instead, rightsize your life.

Ciji says you must go through your things and make some tough decisions. Ask yourself what you need and what should you hang on to, and get rid of everything else. She says the result will surprise you. Not only will you live leaner and have more breathing room, you’ll also experience a psychological liberation that comes from shedding things you’re hanging on to for no reason.

Ciji has specific tips for getting started: get yourself a clutter buddy and look at everything with a four-step criteria. Click the play button above to find out what those four steps are and start rightsizing today!
