Christopher Elliott is a pioneer in digital journalism. He founded the Internet’s first business travel website in 1994 and began blogging in 1996, before it was even called blogging.

He became ABCNews.com’s first travel columnist in 1997. He’s hosted a cable TV show and has worked with NPR, ABC, NBC, CNN and the BBC. He’s a nationally syndicated columnist for National Geographic, USA Today and the Huffington Post, and he’s just released a new book called, “How to Be the World’s Smartest Traveler.”

In addition to his travel writing, Christopher is also a consumer advocate and helps solve travelers’ problems. He shares some recent trends in the travel industry, including the problems he sees not only occurring now but likely increasing in the airline industry in the coming years.

What would you do if you showed up at your hotel and found out they lost your reservation? He shares some tips for resolving some common, and not-so-common, travel issues and offers his No. 1 piece of advice for dealing with issues that may spring up.

And is travel insurance a good idea? He explains.
