If you are what you eat, then most of us are in a whole lot of trouble.

Luckily there’s one man who can help you change your habits forever.

Brian Wansink, Ph.D., the so-called Sherlock Holmes of food, knows exactly what habits make you overeat.

He calls it mindless eating, and in his book, “Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think,” he suggests simple changes that can help you mindlessly eat less rather than mindlessly overeat.

Using a special lab at Cornell University that’s designed to look exactly like a typical American home, Wansink and his team discovered how everything has an impact on your eating habits. Things like the location of your refrigerator, where you stash your snacks and the size of your plates are all contributing to your eating habits.

Wansink says he doesn’t want people to change their entire lives because that becomes a diet and diets don’t work for most people. He says it’s about making small changes that we can all live with.

He even offers his opinion of Happy Meals, and here’s a surprise — he’s not totally against them.

He tells us some of those changes and gives us the inside story of what it was like to work at the highest levels of the USDA. Find out why he thinks it takes so long for the government to make significant changes to our nutritional policies.
