Alex and Nicole Nilsson

In

To promote health and fitness for seniors and to educate people about the preventable disease of Type II diabetes, one 70-year-old decided to rollerski his way across Canada.

Alex Nilsson covered 3,790 miles in 95 days on rollerskis — a combination of regular snow skis and roller skates.

As he made his way across the country, his wife, Nicole, led the way in the couple’s motorhome.

The couple explained to Growing Bolder how Alex started rollerskiing and why they were inspired to undertake such a daunting feat.

At 71, Alex isn’t slowing down. Last year, he completed the New York City Marathon — his seventh marathon — and he plans to race in this year’s Boston Marathon.

Keep up with his adventures and learn more about his trek across Canada on his Web site.
