Author Ciji Ware coined the phrase to describe the process we all must go through when a lifetime's worth of collections, clothes and personal papers crowds out your current life.

She says sometimes the hardest part in getting started is convincing everyone around you get on board with the process.

She gives tips for ways to talk to someone who might not be quite ready to part with something that they think they "might need someday" or those who hold onto items because they hold special memories.
