Basketball
I know the college basketball season has started. And I didn't have to check a schedule, or ask a friend. All I had to do was stand outside my house and listen for the yelling.
My husband and I are both graduates of Syracuse University. We are die-hard Orange fans … we even played the fight song at our wedding. We've suffered through bad recruiting years, coaching changes, star players leaving, and much more. Our obsession with everything Orange may have started when we were students, but it's grown more passionate with every passing sports season.
But let me admit … of *all the sports out there … college basketball is not my favorite. I keep an eye on the 'Cuse through the season, and I love the NCAA tournament. But you could classify me as a casual college basketball fan. My husband … is die-hard. And that brings me back to my first statement.
Last night, the Syracuse game was on television. I chose to go to the gym, instead of camping out in front of the television. When I got back, and started to open the front door -- I was startled by screaming. Yes, screaming. With some choice words thrown in. I opened the door, half-expecting to see a crowd of rowdy people in my house. Nope. Just the one man, ranting and raving about a blown play. My husband, Lucas.
He's a pretty calm guy. You don't usually see a lot of explosive emotions from Luke. I've only seen him lose his temper a couple of times. But it's like he has a different set of rules for Game Day. And I understand. I'm the same way during Red Sox games.
So, I've learned to stay out of the way, and keep as quiet as I can. I don't think he even notices if I'm in the room or not during the 48 minutes of play, because he's so focused on the screen. We *did win last night, so I can breathe a sigh of relief. And now, it's time to get ready for the next game.

Posted 4:29 pm November 14th, 2007Oops ... as my husband pointed out ... college basketball is only 40 minutes. NBA is 48 minutes. Thanks, Lucas! (see, I told you he was obsessed)
