I admit that I have been craving fall lately. You see, I hail from Pennsylvania, went to college in New York and lived for several years in Washington, D.C. So, throughout all of October and November, I was eager to head home for Thanksgiving and bundle up in cozy sweaters and smell the crispness in the air. There's just something un-fall-like about 90-degree weather. But this year, you could've confused Thanksgiving for Christmas in Pennsylvania.
Starting the Saturday before Christmas, my family's home was snowed under by about 8 inches of the white stuff. My husband and father-in-law were along for the holidays. They both are Daytona Beach, Fla. natives who couldn't believe all the snow. But, as any Pennsylvanian would have told you, "Oh, this? it's nothing. It'll stop soon." (well, at least that's what my dad kept telling them). But 24 hours and 8 inches later, it was still coming down.
Despite the freezing temps that come along with it, I have to admit, I loved it. There's nothing like the first snowfall of the year. If you want true silence, stand outside and just listen. All you hear is the snowflakes softly landing on the ground.
Under different circumstances, I would've bundled up and insisted that my husband and brother go sledding with me. But I figured that being 7 months pregnant is probably not a good time to take on the hills in my grandmother's fields.
So, we lit a fire and just lounged inside. There may have been turkey and football instead of tinsel and egg nogg, but it still felt like Christmas to me!
