Veterans
Today I attended the Veteran's Program at the local Fire Department. Not held at the Cemetary because of the rain. Part of the program honored one of our dear neighbor's lost son, Nathan Barnes, who died in the War on Terror fought in Irag. His family spoke about military service, sacrifices, and triumphs. It was an very emotional experience to drive up our street at that time it was lined with American Flags. a lady named Roseanne Gunther headed up a care package that was put together for the area he served in. Scouts lined the route from the funeral home to the cemetary. So many expressions of caring, tribute, and patriotism. We missed the funeral because of previous vacation plans. But I'll bet it and the sight was amazing. My husband is a Navy veteran of 10 years service. It brought back alot of the feelings and experiences. We joined a reunion of his ship this a couple of years ago. Which was quite the experience.
After such an emotional time I thought the least I could do is search out our relatives buried here in American Fork. We had done this previously but were unsuccessful in finding all of them. They died about 1901. So they were quite far back. Now everything is computerized and they even printed out a map. So it was quite easy. The one "Grandmother" had such a beautiful pink
granite (? ) tall standing tombstone (unpolished) with clasped hands on it. "Rest from your labors" is what it said along the granite ribbon at the top. Her name was Elizabeth Wiley Steele. We visited the Cromptons too, James and Hannah.
Well I've never written a blog and read very few. So please forgive my first attempt at writing one.
