Lifelong Learning
I love signing in to GB! Each trip here opens a new window to something I'd never thought about before, or it inspires me in some way. Today I read some great stories here about motivated people - what drives them, why they reached and how they succeeded. Sometimes - ok, pretty often - one of my first thoughts is 'Now, why don't I get out there (wherever 'there' might be) and DO something, too?' Guilt seems to have been my lifelong companion. Second-guessing follows close behind. Terry knows my love of being HOME. I absolutely thrive on it, and I practically have to be blasted out of this cozy little place. It's nothing fancy, no incredible showroom furniture, nothing that's going to make anyone go 'Oh my, that's just beautiful.' So, what makes me love being here, rather than out there? What keeps me satisfied staying within these walls? Why is 'here' more interesting to me than 'there?' We agreed a year ago that Terry would work, I'd stay home. Very much the 'Leave It to Beaver' types, with Beaver grown up and moved away, we have our Ward and June roles down pretty well, and I've never been happier. I'd worked after my kids were in their teens, first as a Semi-Independent Living Coordinator for Dually Diagnosed Adults, then as a caseworker for a Big Brothers/Big Sisters agency, with a 2 year stint in a factory after burnout set in. Then, it was 10 years as a Quality Assurance Supervisor in a Market Research firm. All I really wanted was to be HOME. Terry and I met after the research firm closed its doors, and I ended up in a factory again. A few odd jobs followed, but nothing I could settle into. HOME, I can settle into! I love to read about those with lofty goals, the people who have overcome huge obstacles, started firms, saved lives, traveled the world (I HAVE been to Europe, lol, but was young and drank my way through. I have photos I don't even remember taking!!) I've never had that level of energy!! Maybe my place in the world is to balance out all those energetic go-getters! Someone has to stay home and do the cooking, cleaning, and making crafts, right? It worked for Ward and June!
