I'm nearly at the halfway point by this morning, and by yesterday afternoon I was about ready to kill for a bag of M&Ms. With a week to go before my daughter's wedding, it's finally crunch time to try to lose that dress size I've been planning to lose since the engagement was announced last Christmas. And for me, dieting and weight loss has always been an "all or nothing" event.
So for the past week, I've been entirely chocolate free, as well as largely carb free. No donuts, no fruity malt coolers, no pastries, no pretzels, no mashed potatos, no cookies, no nuthin' that's fun. But the first step of the journey, as well as the hardest one, is the "chocolate free" part. I normally greet the day with chocolate, I end the day with chocolate, and I nibble on it all day long. When I'm stresed, when I'm tired, when I'm happy, when I'm grumpy.
With seven days of chocolate sobriety under my belt, I can already feel the waistband of my pants starting to loosen up and my skirts fit easier. I think I'll make my benchmark of the dress size by the wedding. But for a good sense of just HOW HARD IT'S BEEN...an essay I wrote last year, "Chocolate Sobriety", captures the desperation pretty well.
Now I'm off to eat my sensible quiche. Bah, humbug.

Posted 2:11 pm August 31st, 2008I'm getting ready to wean myself of f of one of my "sugary" bad habits. When people look at you and wonder if you're pregnant, you know it's time to make a change---besides I bought this sexy new dress I want to get into for an October event.
Your post gives me inspiration! Keep us posted.
