In 1901: After ruling for 63 years -- the longest reign for queens -- Queen Victoria of England dies.

In 1917: President Woodrow Wilson pleads for an end to war in Europe, asking for "peace without victory."

In 1927: The first live radio commentary of a soccer match takes place during the game between Arsenal and Seffield United. The game ends with a 1-1 draw.

In 1946: The Central Intelligence Group, which later became the Central Intelligence Agency, is created. The name change was necessary to place the organization on a statutory basis.
