Picture of the Day: On July 5, 1946, a daring two-piece swimsuit was unveiled to the world at a swimming pool in Paris. Unsure what to call his creation, designer Louis Réard spontaneously dubbed it the bikini, inspired by news-making U.S. nuclear tests taking place off the Bikini Atoll that week. The first-ever bikini was modeled by Micheline Bernardini, a Parisian showgirl and nude dancer.
