In 1943: Future President Ronald Reagan is on active-duty assignment with the Army's First Motion Picture Unit. He stars in the motion picture documentary "Air Force," which will later be renamed "Beyond the Line of Duty" and win an Academy Award.
In 1976: "Happy Days" spin-off "Laverne and Shirley" premieres, featuring two women who work on a brewery assembly line. The show stars Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams.
In 1984: Carl Lewis beats his own indoor world long jump record by 9 1/4 inches when he leaps 28 feet, 10 1/4 inches. Lewis is Growing Bolder to this day -- the Olympian's track career spanned from 1979 to 1996, and he is now pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles.
In 1968: Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" is released, seven weeks after the singer's death in a plane crash. It becomes his only #1 hit, and will stay in the top spot for a month.
