Innovative Fashion Legend Dies
Posted June 2, 2008, 11:26 am by Growing BolderAfter a year-long battle with brain cancer, legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent died Sunday night.
For decades, Saint Laurent took control of the fashion world, especially known for bringing pants back into the female wardrobe.
In a Yahoo News article, Gucci called him a "genius of creation" that catapulted Paris into the fashion capital of the world. Instead of just creating clothes for women to wear, friends and business partners believed Saint Laurent's designs were created to serve women.
According to the article, Saint Laurent said, "fashion was not only supposed to make women beautiful, but to reassure them, to give them confidence, to allow them to come to terms with themselves."
The designer's talents even astonished competitors in the fashion business.
Instead of becoming consistent with fashion trends, in his time, Saint Laurent will most be remembered for his out-of-the-box thinking. Although his designs were constantly being met with resistance and it was said he left the world didn't understand his tastes, Saint Laurent continued to create clothes that rocked the fashion world until his retirement in 2002 at age 65.
