Hot As You Want to Be?
Posted September 27, 2007, 5:12 pm in Clothing & Fashion by Growing BolderWhen it comes to fashion, style isn't the only thing that changes. There has been a huge shift in the clothing market.
Size 0s and 2s are yesterday's news; the shift is on to capture the 40+ age group.
"Who do you think has the money to go out and buy designer clothes? It's not the 20-somethings," Sharon Haver told Growing Bolder.
Sharon is one of the most respected voices in the business today who has styled a who's who of entertainment industry heavyweights. Her specialty is knowing how to turn the latest glamour trends of the day into something realistic and wearable for everyone.
She sat down for a lively discussion with Growing Bolder on how to get the most of what you've got ... and then some!
"When it comes to your look, it's your job to make yourself look as great as you can," she said. "There are so many things you can do to make you look and feel more vital and alive."
She says the best way to start is right at the top.
"Take a good look at your hair. Is your style stale? You have to keep a young, modern attitude. Don't be afraid of yourself, just be honest. Maybe that stick straight hair isn't working anymore. The proper layering could make you look much softer and prettier. If your hair is really long and dried out, maybe it's time to go a bit shorter," she says.
Sharon says you can brighten your whole face by whitening your teeth. And when it comes to makeup, as you get older, less is always more.
When it comes to clothes, Sharon says far too many women get stuck in a fashion rut and never sway from what they've been doing for years.
"How boring is that? No wonder you start to feel old and disconnected. Obviously, you aren't going to have the same body when you're 50 as you did when you were 20, but you've got to learn to accept and the changes. If you don't like something, then do something about it! But don't dress like you're trying to hide."
"Want to know the worst mistake you could ever make? This is my pet peeve, but so many women wear them. You know those 'Mom' jeans? The ones where the waist comes way high? I saw those just the other day on the sale rack. Those nasty pants are so aging," Sharon told Growing Bolder.
"I picked them up, and oh my God, they come up so high with a long rise and really awkward shape. They call those 'reverse fit.' Shouldn't that tell you something? Well, get out of reverse fit and get into good fit. Something that shows off your figure. It could be lose tailored pants, straight leg jeans, but something that shows off what you got."
Sharon insists that attitude is everything. She says you have to dress the way you feel. If you feel old, it's going to show no matter what you wear. But if you feel vital, an amazing transformation will happen right before your eyes.
"You deserve to look hot! And you can," she said.
