Posted 6:17 am July 17th, 2008I worked throughout the '70s in an incredible variety of "bar bands"...everything from R&B/Soul, to Southern Rock, with some Fusion Jazz & Hard Rock thrown in...lots of bands, LOTS of drummers!! The point of this ramble is that as a guitar player, for me the "Point of Inspiration" is and always has been the drums. I've worked with several who could hold the beat & little more, I've also worked with a few that couldn't even do that!! I've only worked with TWO, (out of maybe 45-50) that took the whole thing to another level...I don't quite know how to describe it, sort of like trying to explain colors to a blind person, but the nearest I can come is MAGIC. There is like a mist that comes over everything & the DRUMS are at the throbbing HEART of it all! Long story short, (impossible at this point)
Gary Moffatt was one of the two, ironic because we were sidemen for an ego driven lounge lizzard type with a goof-ball show...his drumming managed to elevate even that whorish moment in time to the aforementioned MAGIC all the more a reflection of the drummer that is, GARY MOFFATT!
