He was headed to the west coast to begin a sold out concert and lecture tour when he was caught in a Midwest ice storm and took a nasty tumble, shattering his wrist. The music world held its collective breath for weeks, wondering if the rock legend would be able to play the guitar licks that made McGuinn and The Byrds famous.
